The Incident

It’s been a few days since the rising star of Bollywood, Actor Sushant Singh Rajput committed suicide in his Bandra apartment in Mumbai but still the sadness and negativity associated with the shocking act is prevalent and imbibed in our hearts. The early police investigation report has indicated that the main cause for this suicide was his depression for which he was being treated since the last six months. The hesitation which stirs our minds isn’t the fact that he was suffering through depression, but the ugly reality that none of the “BIG STARS” of Bollywood ever supported him or had his back. The disastrous consequences of Nepotism have long been existing in the infamous industry and this unofrtunate incident has brought it under the limelight yet again.

Beginning of it all

Sushant Singh Rajput started out in the field by starring in daily soap opera on Television before having his big break in 2013.  His debut show was “Kis desh mein hai mera dil” which aired on Star Plus. Followed by a lead role in “Pavitra Rishta” on Zee TV, the latter for which he garnered positive acclaim and awards. Acting wasn’t the childhood dream for SSR (as he liked to call himself in short), he had secured one of the top All India Ranks in Delhi Technical University’s entrance exam. But as fate led him, he left engineering in the third year to pursue his new found passion…Acting. Finally after years of struggle in the TV Industry,

Success and rise to fame:Sushant had his break in Abhishek Kapoor’s directorial “Kai Po Che”. He then went on to star in several succesful films with versatile roles like being a bengali detective in  “Detective Byomkesh Bakshi” to portray M.S Dhoni  in biopic “M.S Dhoni : the untold story”. Like all actors Sushant also had his share of flop movies like Drive and Raabta, but the ratio of his Hits to Flops was big. The game of irony begins when you realise that his last movie “Chhichhore” revolves around an adolescent attempting to end his life, but with the help of his parents learns the value of existing in the world. The movie grossed 173 crores at the Box Office and was one of the most liked film of 2019.

Succumbing to the stereotype

Yet..after all his stellar performances in most movies..Sushant Singh Rajput was NEVER awarded a filmfare or an IIFA award… With so much negligence to face and lack of support from big production houses, Sushant was a different opposite person contrary to the infectious smile he posed. After his death fans have noticed the subtle signs of depression in his social media posts where he indicates that he “has no godfather in the industry” and that they “will kick him out if people don’t watch his films” even practically begging people to go and watch his movies.

Nepotism and the victims

This horrific news has left everyone in shock and the obvious topic which has been trending is the evilness of NEPOTISM. Where undeserving kids of the already established superstars of Bollywood are given unprecedented opportunities and movies whereas struggling actors who are much better performers are being neglected for being “not famous enough” for general public. Demeaning acts of actors like Deepika, Padukone, Salman Khan, Karan Johar etc are being revealed and the dark side of the glamorous Bollywood is being shown to the public. Outsiders have spoken out on the injustices done to them as well and how the issue of nepotism has reached a peak where it has to be abolished.

The Change

We simply can not watch another bright, amazing actor like Sushant Singh Rajput ending his/her life due to this heinous practice of biasedness. Let’s not forget Sushant’s death as just another event, but make a turning revolutionising point in the industry and how talent is being evaluated there. You’ll be remembered Sushant Singh Rajput ,your exceptional talent, humbleness, hardwork and the short yet wonderful legacy of work you’ve left behind…forever and ever in our memories.
